BMW 316i (E46)

The BMW 316i Sedan introduced in 1998 was initially powered by an inline four-cylinder engine generating 105 hp (M43TÜ). In 2001, a model revision provided the sedan with a new advanced engine (N42B18) with VALVETRONIC technology, double VANOS and four valves to each cylinder. This meant that the BMW 316i Sedan now packed an output of 115 hp while at the same time reducing emissions and cutting down fuel consumption. In 2003, this engine was in turn replaced by the N46 engine. The BMW 316i represented the entry level into the world of BMW sports sedans and a total of 188,054 automobiles were sold. Production for the global market took place primarily in Munich, Regensburg and Dingolfing.
