BMW 316i (E30)

The BMW 316i was presented at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in 1987 for the model year 1988. It replaced the existing entry-level model BMW 316 fitted with a carburettor engine. Alongside various measures designed to revise the model, the BMW 316i was given a new 1.8 litre injection engine with standard catalytic converter for the German market. As was the case with all other models, a series of measures were taken in order to optimise the dynamic performance, aesthetic appeal and comfort of the BMW 316i.
