In January 1975, the six-cylinder sedan with displacement of 2.8 litres was replaced by an extended version with the designation BMW 2.8 L. The wheelbase was extended by 10 cm and the upscale series equipment encouraged those customers who were longing for rather more comfort to purchase this sedan. Up until production was discontinued in February 1977, 5,036 units had been sold.
