BMW succeeded in creating one of the most beautiful sports cars of all times with the Roadster 507, first presented at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in 1955. This automobile was based on the engineering of the 3.2 litre 502 Sedan but was driven by an engine with power increased to 150 hp. The 507 was based on the designs penned by the protégé of Raymond Loewy, Albrecht Graf Goertz. The sports car had a top speed of 220 km/h and made an immeasurable contribution to the image of Bayerische Motoren Werke, but at the time it was certainly not an economic success with only 251 examples having been produced.
