BMW Z3 Roadster 1.9 (E36)

Right from the sales launch, customers were able to choose between the BMW Z3 1.8 as an entry-level model and the BMW Z3 1.9. Despite only having a slightly larger displacement, the four-cylinder inline engine powering the BMW Z3 1.9 generated 140 hp, a significantly higher output than its smaller sister model. This was due to a different engine concept. Rather than two valves, the engine of the BMW Z3 1.9 had four valves for each cylinder instead of two. The basic equipment was also somewhat more upscale, for example the BMW Z3 1.9 was supplied with a four-speed automatic transmission (in addition to the manual five-speed gearbox). Electric windows provide additional comfort. Up to 1999, almost 78,000 units were manufactured in Spartanburg.
