BMW 635CSi (E24)

The most successful model in the BMW 6 Series was launched in 1978 in the form of the BMW 635CSi. Until the launch of the special model M635CSi by Motorsport GmbH, this was also the flagship model helming the series. A 3.5 litre inline six-cylinder engine with electronic injection served as the power plant. Compared with smaller engine versions, the series equipment is rather more sophisticated, hence the BMW 635CSi was fitted with an onboard computer and ABS as standard. More sporty performance was achieved with a tauter chassis and a five-speed sports transmission. From the model year 1984, the BMW 635CSi could be equipped with a catalytic converter (185 hp) on request. Starting in 1987, the car was supplied exclusively with a catalytic converter (211 hp). Two Art Cars have been produced using this vehicle model: one by Ernst Fuchs (1982) and one by Robert Rauschenberg (1986).
