A four-door sedan was also introduced in August 1994 to complement the coupé as the standard body of the second-generation BMW M3 (E36). The design was intended to be rather more comfortable than the coupé. This was obvious in the even more understated appearance (for example, the sedan does not have a front spoiler) and from the high-quality details in the interior (for example, chrome door handles, Nappa leather as standard, wooden trims). Similar to the M3 Convertible, the sports seats from the BMW 3 Series (E36) were also installed in the sedan instead of the M sports seats from the coupé. Production came to an end in Germany in May 1998.
