The second generation of the BMW 3 Series was launched in 1982. It was manufactured with an unparalleled diversity of models not yet seen at BMW and broke all previous sales records of the company up to 1991 with more than 2.3 million units sold. In 1985, the BMW 325i was launched as the new flagship model in this series. Initially, this was available as a two-seater or four-seater. The revised six-cylinder engine was available from 1986 with catalytic converter technology and impressed customers with its silky-smooth performance, high torque and low fuel consumption.
