The BMW 325e was created for the idea of offering a particularly environmentally friendly model. The “e” in its name stood for the Greek letter “eta”, the physical symbol for efficiency. In concrete terms, this meant: The built-in six-cylinder in-line engine with a relatively large capacity (2.7 liters) was optimised for high torque and high performance in low to medium engine speed ranges. The 5-speed transmission was part of the standard equipment, which made fuel-efficient driving easier. Of course there was a catalytic converter installed. The BMW 325e was added to the model range in 1984 and was produced until 1988. Around 189,000 vehicles were built during this time.
