BMW 324td (E30)

In 1987, the BMW 3 Series (E30) product range was expanded to include a further diesel engine with the BMW 324td. In contrast to its sister model (BMW 324d), it had an exhaust gas turbocharger, which provided sportier driving characteristics and an increase in power to 115 hp (instead of 86 hp). Although the built-in six-cylinder in-line engine (M21D24) was already known from the BMW 5 Series (E28), it was significantly further developed with the introduction in the BMW 3 Series, because the electronically controlled diesel injection (DDE) was introduced. The electronic engine control was combined with a smaller turbocharger. These measures improved the response behavior and the torque curve.
