BMW 316ti Compact (E46)

The BMW 316ti Compact (E46) was the first model in the new Compact series to be presented in the public arena in February 2001 at the Geneva Motor Show. VALVETRONIC technology was installed in this vehicle for the first time and from June 2001 the system was gradually introduced into the other four-cylinder models of the BMW 3 Series (E46). The four-cylinder inline engine (N42) had a displacement of 1.8 litres and delivered 115 hp. From March 2004, the BMW 316ti was provided with a new engine (N46), which was later also adopted in the BMW 1 Series (E87). In some European countries (e.g. Greece, Portugal), it was supplied with a reduced displacement (1.6 litres) and without VALVETRONIC. The BMW 316ti Compact was not available in markets outside Europe. A total of over 100,000 units were manufactured and this made it the most popular vehicle within the Compact series.
