BMW 330xd (E46)

The BMW 330xd Sedan was the all-wheel-drive version of the BMW 330d. Initially, the BMW high-tech diesel engine (M57) generated a maximum power output of 184 hp and maximum torque of 390 Nm already at an engine speed of 1,750 rpm. Later on, these values could be increased to 204 hp and an impressive 410 Nm between engine speeds of 1,500 and 3,250 rpm. Common rail direct injection and an exhaust turbocharger with variable turbine geometry almost entirely eliminated the turbo lag that was otherwise frequently experienced. The innovative all-wheel-drive entirely eliminated mechanical locks and all control systems were electronic. This cut down weight and simultaneously provided greater reliability.
