BMW 330xi (E46)

Simultaneously with the BMW 325xi, a sedan was also launched with all-wheel drive and powered by the 3.0 litre engine from the BMW 330i. This was the most powerful model in the series with an inline six-cylinder engine (M54B30) delivering an output of 231 hp and developing a torque of 300 Nm. Alongside the engine, the highlight was the drive. The all-wheel-drive system was electronically so sophisticated that it obviated the need for mechanical locks. New chassis control systems (DSC, ADB) controlled power transmission and additionally even saved weight in comparison with mechanical systems. 62 % of the drive force came from the rear axle with the aim of maintaining the agility of the standard drive unit and keeping the steering free of drive influences.
