BMW 525iX Touring (E34), all-wheel drive

The BMW 525iX Touring (E34) was supplied in addition to the sedan from the beginning of 1992. It was undoubtedly the perfect vehicle for a winter trip with the family. The estate car combined the large trunk incorporating the practical tailgate with the advantages of all-wheel drive. This offered a high level of driving safety under adverse winter road conditions. In spite of the noticeable additional weight of almost 100 kg, the car was powered by the 192 hp engine (M50B25 and from September 1992 M50B25TU) and consequently had an adequately powerful engine to be driven in a sporty driving style. Although sales figures for the Touring models in the BMW 5 Series (E34) lagged significantly behind those of the sedans overall, virtually the same number of units of the BMW 525iX Touring were manufactured as in the case of the BMW 725iX Sedan. Up to March 1996, approximately 4,600 vehicles were produced.
