From model year 1962 until the end of production in November 1963, BMW marketed the flagship model of the BMW 502 Series as the BMW 3200 S. The output was increased by 20 hp to 160 hp. This powered the car to a top speed of 190 km/h and made the BMW 3200 S the fastest German sedan of its era. The new taillights were now round and they were shared by the 2600 L, 3200 L and 3200 S models. Similar to these models, the BMW 3200 S was also supplied with a central gearshift on request from autumn 1962.
