The sports car version designated BMW 319/1 had a more powerful engine than the series version. Instead of two carburettors, the BMW 319/1 had three Solex flat-flow carburettors to give the sports car an output of 55 hp. This generated speeds of up to 135 km/h - an impressive performance for the era. The compression was increased from 5.6 to 6.8, and instead of a 40 litre fuel tank, the 319/1 was provided with a tank volume of 50 litres. Wheel rims with central locking nuts were supplied as an option.
