The BMW Z4 2.2i was launched on the marketplace in October 2003 - and it was therefore somewhat later than its bigger sibling. It completed the model range at the lower end but the six-cylinder engine generating 170 hp meant that the car was by no means underpowered. At the close of 2005, production of the BMW Z4 2.2i was discontinued and this excluded the possibility of a model revision for this version. The BMW Z4 2.0i powered by a four-cylinder inline engine was already being produced from April 2005 and it took on the mantle of the entry-level model for the BMW Z4 model series.
