The BMW 525d Touring (E39) was the successor to the BMW 525tds Touring (E39). At the same time as the sedan, it was launched in the marketplace in March 2000, and the latest series of diesel engines (M57) was installed under the hood. Up to that point, these engines had only been fitted in the BMW 530d. Equipped with common rail injection, variable turbine geometry (VTG) and driving performance virtually equal to that of the petrol model, the BMW 525d had a displacement of 2.5 litres and represented the ideal balance between the BMW 520d powered by a four-cylinder engine and the BMW 530d with a 3.0 litre power unit. This well-balanced harmony enabled the model to appeal to more than 30,500 purchasers.
