BMW 730d (E38)

The BMW 7 Series E38 was launched in 1994 and in 1996 BMW for the first time introduced a diesel model for the luxury class in the form of the 725tds. In 1998, the compression-ignition range was expanded with the BMW 730d high-tech diesel. Common rail injection technology and exhaust turbocharger with variable turbine geometry delivered a power output of 184 hp (136 kW) at a high torque that was already available at low engine speeds. This optimum dynamic power, coupled with outstanding economy, attracted more than 12,000 customers over three years and definitively established the BMW diesel in the luxury automobile segment.
