In 1972, the BMW 3.0 CSL was given the 200 hp injection engine from the BMW 3.0 CSi. It was slightly enlarged for reasons of homologation so that the displacement was now 3003 cc rather than 2985 cc. The weight-saving components were retained virtually unchanged. Hence, the exterior of the injection version was almost indistinguishable from the carburettor model and was cloaked in lightweight alloy body components with a reduction in insulation and equipment. The most famous version of the BMW 3.0 CSL was subsequently launched as the "Batmobile" ("Batmobil") in 1973.
