The BMW 2002 Touring (designation from model year 1973, previously BMW Touring 2000) is the best-selling model of the newly introduced body version with a production run of more than 15,900 units. The engineering is based on the BMW 2002. Although the four-cylinder inline engine fitted with a Solex downdraught carburettor delivered 30 hp less than the injection version supplied in the BMW 2002 tii Touring, an acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in just 10.9 sec was nevertheless an impressive performance. Within a short space of time from May 1971 to September 1972, the BMW 2002 Touring was also supplied with an automatic transmission. Today, these vehicles are a genuine rarity since only 989 units were delivered.
