The BMW 1600-2 quickly developed into a sales hit. After all, it offered practical features and a lot of driving fun at a very favourable price and within an attractive package. The most exciting model in this product line from 1967 onwards was the full convertible bodied by Baur in Stuttgart. Anyone who wanted to invest around DM 2,000 more than for the sedan, obtained an exclusive automobile in the form of the BMW 1600 Convertible. Only 1,682 cars were manufactured and this low production run alone meant that the model was destined for a career as a BMW classic.
