The last version of the BMW 502 powered by a 2580 cc eight-cylinder engine was launched in July 1961 and was marketed as the BMW 2600 L. Compared with the predecessor model BMW 2.6 Luxux, the engine output was increased by 10 hp to 110 hp. The BMW 2600 L was manufactured until the end of 1963 and was equipped with disc brakes on the front axle as standard. Furthermore, it could also be ordered with a central gearshift rather than the previous steering-column gearshift.
