The BMW 316 was one of the most popular models in the first BMW 3 Series. It made its debut together with the BMW 318, 320 and 320i 4-cylinder models in 1975. It was initially equipped with a 1.6 liter four-cylinder in-line engine with register carburettor, which improved starting and warm-up characteristics and thus also increased operating comfort. From 1980, a revised 1.8 liter engine was installed with the same model name, which was powered by a new generation carburettor. The reason for this was the ever tightening emission requirements. With its 90 hp, the BMW 316 was well motorized even compared to its competitors and guaranteed typical BMW driving pleasure.
