The BMW 315 was the successor to the BMW 303, the first six-cylinder automobile in the history of the company. It was launched in April 1934 and incorporated the chassis, engineering and bodywork of its predecessor. Only the engine was improved. An increase in the bore and stroke raised the output to 34 hp and this was indeed the first BMW automobile to break through the then magical speed barrier of 100 km/h. The BMW 315 was produced in June 1937. Over this period, more than 9,700 vehicles were manufactured with different bodies. This included 837 chassis to accommodate special bodies.
