The BMW 530i Touring (E39) replaced the BMW 528i (E39) in 2000. Powered by an entirely new inline six-cylinder engine (M54B30), it was positioned as the most powerful six-cylinder immediately behind the V8 models (BMW 535i Touring and BMW 540i Touring). The engine featured variable Double VANOS and the application of lightweight alloy for the cylinder head and crankcase. The widely praised power unit accelerated the vehicle from a standing start in the sprint to 100 km/h in 7.5 seconds.
