The BMW 525tds was initially the only diesel version of the fourth BMW 5 Series generation. The six-cylinder diesel engine combined super torque for sporty driving performance with a noise development that was exemplary for diesel engines. The diesel fuel was injected into a swirl chamber in order to achieve this. The prepared fuel-air mixture was conveyed from there into the combustion chambers. Innovative technologies like the world’s first alloy chassis manufactured in large-scale production enabled fuel consumption to be reduced still further.
