The open, two-seated roadster with soft top was the standard body of the BMW Z3 (E36). It was characterised by the classic roadster design: a short rear end, a long bonnet, sweeping lines with heavily accentuated wheel arches and short overhangs at the front and rear. The occupants' sitting position was moved far back and low on the road. In April 1999, a model revision was carried out, which visually upgraded and modernized elements of the exterior and interior. In addition, a completely new range of engines from the BMW 3 Series was also used piece by piece in the BMW Z3 Roadster.
