In December 1968, the BMW 2800 CS was the first model in the new series of the Grand Coupés (Große Coupés) and it was therefore the first BMW six-cylinder coupé after the Second World War. The vehicle was presented as an elegant automobile at the top of the range which had also been designed to be athletic. Furthermore, BMW also focused on the safety of the occupants and offered them upscale, functional equipment. In spring 1971, the BMW 2800 CS was replaced by the BMW 3.0 CS generating 180 hp.
