Production of the BMW M3 Sedan (E36) started up in June 1994. In contrast to the coupé, the equipment for the body actually supplied as standard for the BMW M3 in the form of the sedan was somewhat more luxurious. Overall, there were two different versions of the M3 Sedan (and a US model as well), which were distinguished primarily by the engine. The S50B30 engine powering the first version featured first-time application of variable camshaft control (VANOS) for the inlet camshaft. The sedan was built in this version until August 1995. Production of the cars was carried out in Regensburg. After the production run came to an end, manufacture continued seamlessly with a revised version of the BMW M3 Sedan.
