The special series BMW M3 GT limited to 350 units was developed for homologation in racing campaigns. Production and sales were carried out solely in Germany. The visual appearance was significantly more sporty than the BMW M3 E 36 on account of the spoiler package supplied as standard, the special paintwork finish styled in British Racing Green and the standard 17" forged wheel rims. The engineering included installation of the S50B30 engine from the standard model but owing to modified tuning this power plant now generated an output of 295 hp. The chassis and brakes were adopted almost unchanged from the M3 Coupé but a strut brace in the engine compartment provided additional driving stability.
