The BMW 318is is characterised by a particularly sporty four-cylinder engine fitted with four valves for each cylinder. A slightly revised version was installed from 1996. Compared with the smaller four-cylinder model in the BMW 316i, the BMW 318is stands out by virtue of its braking system, which has disc brakes at the rear and front as standard.
