The BMW M3 Convertible was also available powered by two different engines (plus a special model to cater for the North American market). Production already started in November 1993 and sales were launched in April 1994. The power pack was provided by the S50B30 inline six-cylinder sports engine with a displacement of 3.0 litres and generating power of 286 hp, developed by Motorsport GmbH. The special feature was the first use of variable camshaft control (VANOS) for the intake camshaft. The M3 Convertible was manufactured in Regensburg. It primarily served the European market. After a short break, production was switched to the revised version of the BMW M3 Convertible in October 1995.
