The BMW 318is Convertible was powered by a particularly sporty four-cylinder engine with four valves for each cylinder. A slightly revised version was installed from 1996 onwards. Compared with the smaller four-cylinder model in the form of the BMW 316i, the BMW 318is differed in its braking system, which had disc brakes at the front and rear as standard. This version was only supplied to the US market.
