In 1985, BMW presented its own full convertible based on the BMW 3 Series. This was the first convertible developed in the factory since the legendary BMW 503 Convertible from the year 1956 and it was marketed in parallel with the Baur Topcabriolet. The six-cylinder models marked the start of these convertibles. The BMW 318i Convertible came along in 1990 as the first four-cylinder model. The BMW 3 Series Convertible (E30) was produced at the Regensburg and Dingolfing Plants and the M3 Convertible likewise came from Regensburg. Since then, convertibles have once again become firmly established in the BMW product range and contribute significantly to the success of the brand.
