Customers with an eye to economy while also having an interest in sporty driving had the option of the 1802 model powered by a short-stroke engine generating 90 hp from 1971 onwards. This model combined excellent fuel consumption with dynamic driving performance at a very favourable price. The BMW 1802 has a price tag of DM 10,434, ranking it fair and square between the BMW 1602 and the 2002. It appealed to a devoted community of purchasers and a total of 83,000 automobiles were sold exclusively in a left-hand-drive version.
