The BMW 501 was the first post-war model and it was joined by the more luxurious model BMW 502 in September 1954. Although there were also coupé and convertible versions, the four-door sedan with up to six seats was nevertheless the standard body for the BMW 502, as in the case of the BMW 501. Between September 1954 and December 1963, it was supplied exclusively powered by 2.6 litre and 3.2 litre V8 engines under differing model designations. A total in excess of 7,200 BMW 502 sedans were produced.
