Alongside a number of convertibles, five coupés of the types BMW 501 A and 501 six-cylinder models were produced at coachbuilder Baur, Stuttgart, in 1955. These hand-built automobiles were built to order and marketed though the BMW dealer network. Today, they rank among the rarest models of the BMW "Baroque Angel" ("Barockengel").
