The exteriors of the BMW 327 and the BMW 327/28 Sports Convertible were identical. They featured harmoniously flowing contours, tasteful two-tone paint finish and a gently sloping tail with partially skirted rear wheels. The BMW 327/28 was now intended for customers who were not satisfied with the 55 hp generated by the BMW 327 in terms of speed and exclusivity. The BMW 327 was equipped with the engine from the BMW 328 motor-sport model, generating an output of 80 hp. A total of 482 vehicles rolled off the assembly line between 1938 and 1940.
