In September 1938, BMW introduced a sports coupé to complement the 327 Sports Convertible. It provided the alternative for all those motorists who were unwilling to miss out on gorgeous contours but preferred travelling without draughts. Most of the coupés were painted in a black finish embellished with a subtle side stripe in red or green to align with the matching red or green upholstery in a subtle patterned fabric. The rear emergency seats were rather more comfortable than in the convertible. Luggage could now be stowed from the outside by opening the spare wheel and lid to the rear.
