The BMW 503 Convertible celebrated its debut at the IAA Frankfurt Motor Show in September 1955. The luxurious 2+2 seater car stood somewhat in the shadow of the BMW 507 Roadster, which was likewise presented there. Like the BMW 503 models, the BMW 507 Roadster originated from the pen of Albrecht Graf Görtz. From May 1956 until the end of production in spring 1960, only 139 convertibles were handbuilt by artisanal craftsmanship, slightly more than half of the production run of the BMW 507.
