The BMW Z1 is the founder of the Z Series at BMW. This was a small series of 8,000 vehicles. The innovative vehicle came into being at Technik GmbH and was originally intended for series production. Furthermore, the BMW Z1 originally was originally created as a feasibility study for a resumption of the long-dormant roadster tradition at BMW. As a result of the great popularity among the press, board members and the employees of Technik GmbH, a decision was ultimately taken to produce a small series and this was manufactured in Munich between 1988 and 1991.
