The BMW Z3 (E36) was a roadster based on the BMW 3 Series (E36) that debuted in September 1995. It shared the chassis, drive unit and elements of the interior with the 3 Series. The shortened floor assembly and the front and rear axles were taken from the BMW 3 Series Compact (E36). The general public had already seen the BMW Z3 Roadster starring in the film "James Bond 007 - Golden Eye" about three months prior to its actual market launch. In 1998, the model series was joined by a coupé. The BMW Z3 was the first vehicle from the BMW Group to be produced entirely outside Germany
