The BMW 303 Sedan was fitted with the first six-cylinder inline engine to be developed by BMW. Although the power plant only had a displacement of 1.2 litres, making it one of the world's smallest six-cylinder engines, the engine developed an impressive 30 hp in the sedan. It had very good running characteristics that were previously unknown in this vehicle class. A kerb weight of just 820 kg enabled the sedan to reach top speeds of up to 90 km/h. The engine consumed almost 10 litres of petrol to travel 100 km and deliver this performance. From May 1933 to May 1934, a total of 1,655 examples of the sedan were manufactured. That makes this form of body by far the most popular guise of the BMW 303.
