BMW M5 (E28)

Although the BMW M5 (E28) was based on the BMW 5 Series Sedan, the engineering was a genuine product from Motorsport GmbH. The power plant was a modified version of the BMW M1 engine (M88/3), which was also installed in the BMW M635 CSi (E24). It was a 3.5 litre inline six-cylinder engine with four valves to each cylinder. The engine generated an output of 286 hp and it accelerated the vehicle from a standing start in the sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds. In addition to the engine, the BMW M5 also shared the braking system and the manual five-speed gearbox with the BMW M635 CSi. The visual appearance of the BMW M5 only differed from standard sedans in inconspicuous details. This made the BMW M5 capable of 245 km/h and transformed it into the proverbial "Wolf in sheep's clothing" ("Wolf im Schafspelz").
