BMW Z3 Roadster 2.3 (E36), US model

The BMW Z3 2.3 was only produced for the market in North America. Contrary to expectations, a 2.5 litre six-cylinder engine (M52B25) generating 170 hp was installed rather than a 2.3 litre engine. The equipment was rather more understated than the large six-cylinder models although a "Premium Package" included a luxury wood interior, leather upholstery and an electric soft top. During the two-year production run, approximately 22,200 BMW Z3 2.3 roadsters were produced for the USA until the BMW Z3 2.5i fitted with a revised engine replaced the model in September 2000.
