At the beginning of 1962, the BMW LS Luxus was launched on the market as a significantly upgraded successor to the BMW 700 Sedan. The new BMW LS Luxus had enhanced motoring comfort compared with the BMW 700, with more extensive interior equipment and more generous space inside the car. There were no major changes to the drive technology and the two-cylinder Boxer engine was taken over from the BMW 700. The new LS Luxus became a true success story for BMW. Up to the summer of 1965, total production amounted to around 86,000 units.
