In September 1964, the type BMW LS Coupé was launched as the successor to the "Short-tail Coupé" ("Kurzheck-Coupé"), with a long wheelbase and a significantly extended body. The car essentially remained unchanged up to the B-pillar. However, the significantly extended tail end gave the coupé a highly stretched appearance. The LS Coupé was only supplied with the 40 hp sports engine. The car was particularly luxuriously equipped and only 1,730 units were built during the course of a year.
