BMW conquered the hearts of countless two-wheeler riders with the BMW Isetta during the 1950s, who thought that they would rather like a roof over their heads. The first version was supplied with the 250 cc motorcycle engine from the BMW R25/3. However, BMW already expanded the engine range in autumn of 1955 with a 300 cc version. Although this only generated 1 hp more and likewise had a top speed of 85 km/h, the engine ran significantly more smoothly and also had a more powerful torque. Around one third of the Isetta Standard purchasers felt that the additional cost of DM 450 was value for money and 15,000 vehicles were produced with the "Isetta 300" badge emblazoned on the front door.
