The BMW 750i with a 12-cylinder engine launched in 1994 spearheaded the technological charge of the third generation of the BMW 7 Series. Compared with its predecessor model in the E32 Series, the displacement was increased to 5.4 litres and the engine now delivered 326 hp (240 kW) instead of 300 hp. The automatic transmission shifted through five gears rather than four and the top speed continued to be limited to 250 km/h. More than 9,000 units of the 750i were produced up until the model change in 2001.
